What we do
Founder Investigation publishes two things. The first is longform investigations of significant founder and startup stories, told carefully and sourced to the record. The second is The Record Check, a series that takes claims circulating online and tests them against the primary evidence, whatever the result turns out to be. Both come from the same conviction: that the interesting question is not whether a company succeeded or failed, but what the record actually establishes, and about whom.
How we work
We report from primary documents first, place every claim on a ladder of certainty, and attribute events by control timeline rather than by brand name. The full approach is set out in our methodology. We correct errors openly and log them on the corrections page.
Independence
Founder Investigation runs no paywalls and no sponsorships. It does not take payment from the people or companies it writes about, and it does not sell favourable coverage or removal. That independence is the reason our verdicts, including the ones that clear people the internet has already convicted, can be trusted.
